About our school

akronprep.org school introduction

Akron Preparatory School is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Kindergarten (Early Entry) through 8th grade in downtown Akron, Ohio. The school earned 3-Star ratings for both Progress and Gap Closing on the Ohio State Report Card, and its Regional Vice President, Ashley Miles, was named 2023 Principal of the Year across the entire Accel Schools network.

Students here get more than reading and math. The school runs art, music, dance, and technology courses alongside its core academics. Middle school students choose electives that point toward future academic and career interests. Physical education runs weekly for every grade. For students in grades 6 through 8, the school fields basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading, and track teams.

We offer a mentoring program for our boys. I am King Mentorship Program works with young men on leadership and character. The program runs during the school year and exists because the school believes that academics alone don't build a whole person.

Every enrolled student receives a free breakfast and lunch. Bus transportation is available for eligible families. After-school care extends until 7:00 p.m. through a community partner, with a low annual fee and financial support options for families who need it. Tutoring runs twice a week for students in grades 3 through 8. Free summer learning is available through a partner program.

Students must turn 5 by December 31 to enter Kindergarten and will have to take an entrance exam to eligible.

Akron Preparatory School is located at 1200 E Market St, Ste 3360, Akron, OH 44316. Call (330) 247-6232 or visit akronprep.org.
