It takes about 60 seconds. You've driven past this building. Maybe you've looked it up once or twice. Something made you pause, but you didn't pull the trigger because you've heard promises before. Akron parents know what it's like to hear "we're different" from a school that wasn't. So here's what this school actually does, every day, with specific names and specific programs. What your child's school day actually looks like
The school day starts at 8:10 a.m. and runs until 3:10 p.m. Breakfast is served starting at 7:30. Every classroom has a teacher who knows your child's name, knows where he or she is academically, and adjusts instruction to meet that level. Small group tutoring runs twice a week for students in grades 3 through 8. If your child needs extra time with a concept, that time exists.More than a classroom
Art. Music. Dance. Technology. These run during the regular school day, not as optional after-school add-ons. Middle school students pick electives that connect to real interests. Physical education happens weekly for every grade level. For students in grades 6 through 8: basketball, volleyball, track and cheerleading. These aren't intramural. Your child shows up, works, and represents the school. We have a boy’s mentoring program that runs year-round that you won't find at most schools in Akron. I am a King Mentorship Program that works with young men on character, leadership, and becoming someone worth following. This program exists because this school believes a child who knows who he or she is will outperform a child who only knows what's on the test. The building closes at 4:00
After-school care runs until 7:00 p.m. through a community partner. The annual fee is low, and financial support is available if your family needs it. Tutoring happens during after-school hours for grades 3 through 8. Free summer learning runs through a partner program, so your child doesn't lose three months of progress between June and August.Field trips that connect to what students are learning
Trips to zoos, museums, farms, and seasonal community locations. These aren't reward days. They're tied to the curriculum. A child studying ecosystems visits a working farm. A child studying history walks through a museum. The classroom extends past the walls.Everything you just read? It costs nothing.

"I am appreciative of the way staff and teachers handle my kids. They come home every day talking about Ms. Harris. The staff is so patient with my son who is in kindergarten. Kindergarten can be scary for any child, and I love the way they make him feel comfortable and treat him like their own. My kids love Akron prep!”
Shannon Curry – Kindergarten, 1st and 5th grade parent
Your child is in school right now. Today matters. Every semester spent in a building that doesn't see your child, doesn't challenge your child, and doesn't offer anything beyond the basics is a semester that doesn't come back.
