Welcome to Akron Preparatory School, a learning community which values high expectations for both academics and behavior. Our staff embraces students, families, and communities to build and develop well rounded individuals who are independent critical thinkers and intrinsically motivated to be life-long learners. We believe that all children can learn as we seek to make a difference in the lives of our students in grades K-8. Our certified teachers and staff are committed to providing a quality education for all students in a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment, and to ensuring that each child reaches his/her full potential. In addition to core academic subjects, students have the benefit of physical education classes.
We encourage all parents/guardians to maintain regular communications with their child’s teachers and be actively involved in the school community. Checking the school calendar, website, and our Facebook page for events and activities will help keep you informed.

Jon Thompson, Principal
Jon Thompson brings over a decade of experience in education and a passion for supporting students in achieving success both academically and personally. A former student-athlete, Jon played football and ran track at the University of Richmond before transferring to Walsh University, where he also played basketball and graduated in 2013.
Jon’s educational philosophy is rooted in his “4 E’s to Academic Success”: Education, Economics, Environment, and Exposure. By focusing on these critical elements, he aims to create opportunities for students that empower them to succeed in school and in life.
Currently residing in Akron with his 7-year-old daughter, Laila, Jon is excited to be joining the Akron Preparatory School community. Ashley Miles, Superintendent
Ashley Miles became principal of Akron Preparatory School in 2019 with over 15 years of experience working as an educator and school administrator. Prior to joining ACCEL Schools in 2017 as Dean of Students at Canton College Preparatory School, Ms. Miles worked for ICAN Schools in Northeast Ohio and at the Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy. A strong believer in education, Ms. Miles has earned multiple graduate degrees. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Miami University, a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a Master’s degree in Education emphasizing Curriculum and Instruction from Ashford University in San Diego. At the core of Ms. Miles’ award-winning school leadership work is building school culture, working tirelessly from her personal mantra “I can do all things through Christ” and other inspirations such as Michelle Obama, “When they go low, you go high”.

The leadership team at ACCEL Schools has a combined 1000+ years of experience as global school management operators with expertise in curriculum research and design, assessment, student support services, and education consulting.
