20-21 Reopening Change Update

August 18, 2020

Dear Families,

The spring of 2020 brought about unprecedented changes to our educational system.  As we looked towards the 2020-2021 academic year, the staff at Akron Preparatory School took steps to ensure we would be able to offer students an opportunity to return to the building.  Our efforts were magnified when Governor DeWine announced that schools were permitted to reopen for in-person instruction.

In preparation for the academic year, we conducted a parent survey to ensure we were meeting the needs of our families.  Through this survey, it was determined that families deserved the opportunity to decide how instruction would be delivered to their scholars.  Therefore, families were asked to choose between three learning options: traditional instruction, remote learning, or hybrid instruction.  We secured PPE, sanitation support, signage for buildings, and began planning for the return of our scholars.

After carefully considering the health and safety of the students, staff, and community, it is with great sadness we must inform you of the Board of Directors’ decision to forgo the traditional and hybrid learning options.  Due to the Akron Preparatory School Board’s decision on August 13, 2020, the traditional and hybrid learning options are no longer available to our families.  As a result, all scholars will be enrolled in a virtual learning modality for the first nine weeks of school.

We share your disappointment with this decision.  However, we are committed to providing the scholars of Akron Preparatory School with a successful virtual learning experience.

Should you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Ashley Miles at (330) 612-5621.

Yours in Education,

Akron Preparatory School Administration

A Day in the Life: Your Plan for Successful Online Learning

New to online learning? Worried about preparing for fall? Want to make sure your child can stay on track?  Don’t worry, we have you covered!

We have created a plan that is simple to follow no matter what grade your student is in!

  • Every day, make sure your student is logged in by 8:00am
  • Every day, your student will meet online with their teachers. You will be provided with a schedule the first week of school.
  • Not all learning will happen online. There will be time every day to students to practice what they have learned independently offline.
  • Your school will give you a schedule to help keep you on track and prepped for success.

You and your student have a login. You have a schedule. You have great teachers.

We just need a couple of things from you to help make this a great year.

  • Set up a work area for your student that is quiet and free of distractions.
  • Log in to Canvas every day with your observer account to help your student stay on track.
  • Take the parent orientation course to teach you about all the great tools that Canvas has to keep you and your student on track.

Get school updates, learning resources, tech support, and more in the tabs on our dedicated COVID-19 page.

Ready for the school year? You’ve got this!
